Good morning dear students, when you start the English Literature course, you will use this platform to develop research skills so you can discover, learn about and learn about the life of William Shakespeare, his works and his legacy.

William Shakespeare


William Shakespeare was a renowned English poet, playwright, and actor born in 23 April 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, he died in 1616. Shakespeare is widely regarded as one of the greatest writers in the English language. He was the eldest son of John Shakespeare, a prosperous glover and local dignitary, and Mary Arden, the daughter of a wealthy farmer.

Shakespeare was a prolific writer during the Elizabethan and Jacobean ages of British theatre (sometimes called the English Renaissance or the Early Modern Period).  Shakespeare is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called England's national poet and nicknamed the Bard of Avon.

William Shakespeare is widely considered the greatest playwright of all time, as well as the most influential writer in the history of the English language. He managed to impact and influence people, young and old, through his legacy and the themes of his works, which are still relevant.

His career spanned 28 years, and in that time he managed to write 37 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and a few other verses. Shakespeare also helped create the literature we know today by combining classical and medieval literature. Additionally, Shakespeare influenced the theater by emphasizing literary devices and combining genres. He also originated and added approximately 3,000 words and hundreds of phrases to the English language, which English speakers use to this day.
